Thirty three artists have made fiber arts pieces to celebrate the charm and history of lighthouses here on the Central Coast.

"When I was invited to participate in the Lighthouse Art Quilt Challenge to raise funds to restore the Pt. Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, I thought 'why not make one of my coats instead of a quilt?'"
"As many of you know, I'm inspired to make themed garments. However, most of the time I'm the one choosing the theme and it has some connection to me, no matter how tenuous. I have no personal connection with a lighthouse. Heck! I grew up in Louisiana and I don't think I ever saw a real lighthouse until I was an adult," reminisced Rachel.
"First, I got to work collecting my fabrics. Once I found a sailor coat-type pattern, I was off and running. I am really satisfied with the coat and I would have been very happy wearing it myself. Working on this challenge, I found that I was able to move to another realm in my artistic work. The story doesn't always have to be MY story."
Size 14. Pieced cotton, lined, embellishments.
The drawing will be held the evening of Thursday, June 21 at Empty Spools Seminar at Asilomar. Winner need not be present to win.
